BAFTA, Primetime Emmy, and Golden Globe Award-nominated actor Hugh Bonneville stars as C.S. Lewis, the author of The Chronicles of Narnia, in the theatrical production of Shadowlands at London’s Aldwych Theatre. The story follows the Oxford academic whose orderly life is transformed by the arrival of the spirited American poet Joy Davidman. What begins as an intellectual connection develops into a deeply moving exploration of love and the fragile beauty of life.

Written by William Nicholson, Shadowlands is based on a true story and was adapted from his own BAFTA Award-winning television movie. The play later became a West End smash-hit, winning the Evening Standard Award for Best Play, before transferring to Broadway where it received a Tony Award-winning production.

In 1993, the story was adapted into a major feature film directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger, which went on to win the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film.

This production is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh and transfers to the West End following the sell-out Chichester Festival Theatre production, playing a strictly limited engagement at the Aldwych Theatre.
