David Hare’s legendary rebel play Teeth ’n’ Smiles returns in a major 50th-anniversary revival.
Against the backdrop of 1960s counterculture, the play centres on Maggie Frisby, once the electrifying frontwoman of a revolutionary band. Now broke, bruised, and consumed by disillusionment, she hurtles through one last night powered by booze, fury, and a voice that refuses to disappear.
Fifty years after its original impact at the Royal Court, the production comes back with original music and Rebecca Lucy Taylor (Self Esteem) in the role of Maggie. Fierce, raw, and confrontational, Teeth ’n’ Smiles remains a blistering portrait of art, anger, and defiance at the moment when the dream has collapsed — but the music still goes on.
