The Royal Observatory, founded in the 17th century is a cornerstone of British astronomy. It was here that legendary scientists mapped the stars to aid maritime navigation.
Stride across the Meridian Line, established as the Prime Meridian of the World in 1884, with one foot in each hemisphere. Walk in the footsteps of Royal Astronomers, uncover their fascinating stories, and delve into the past, present, and future of astronomy, space, and the stars.
Notable attractions include the Great Equatorial Telescope, Harrison’s Clocks, the Shepherd Gate Clock, the Time Ball, and the renowned Octagon Room.
By car: If you’re heading to your destination via A2, start by heading west on Shooters Hill Rd/A2 toward Kidbrooke Park Rd/A2213. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and continue driving on Shooters Hill Rd/A2. Turning right onto Charlton Way/B210, then left onto Blackheath Ave, you’ll pass through one roundabout. Your destination, Royal Observatory Greenwich, will be on the left. GPS navigation is highly advised.
By public transportation: You can easily reach your destination by taking bus 286 to Trafalgar Estate (Stop T), followed by a 13-minute walk. Alternatively, you can take bus 386 to John Roan School (Stop G) and enjoy a 15-minute walk to your destination.
